From the recording Twelve Children (CD-quality WAV)
Tenderness is one of two tracks we didn't fully cut at Koop Studios. The two guitars were originally tracked at 6/8 Studios in the old Cable Building at Houston and Lafayette, in the late 90s with Perkin Barnes at the board I played the basic two-note-chord framework on my Taylor 512c, and my longtime friend David Loren Goldstein delivered a haunting, spontaneous melodic line on his Martin D35. We had also tracked vocals and an original bass line with my good friend Joe Zarate-Sanderlin. But, those were re-imagined during our Koop sessions as part of modernizing the track's sound. As a composer, this was perhaps the first song where I fit lyrics to a sound, rather than creating a sound to match my lyrics.
Lyrics
Won't you slow down
Girl, we've got time
All I need, is just a little tenderness
I'll be fine
Girl take my hand
And take some time
All we'll find, just a little tenderness
down the line
Ten years down, life is rolling
Ten Years down, staring at the sky
Ten Years down, moments stolen by
Won't you slow down
Girl, we've got time
All I need, is just a little tenderness
I'll be fine
