From the recording Twelve Children (CD-quality WAV)
Some of us stand on a precipice, for sure. But, most, I think, stand atop a grassy hill, poised for a slow, inevitable descent. Lullaby for Summer is about that descent, or at least meditating on that descent. I love autumn, but it's a melancholy love. The light is beautiful, long and low. And, it is framed by riotous color, in a way that spring light isn't. But, I think it really feels poignant because of what it mirrors - that slow descent. And, when autumn nights grow cool, we really understand what we're about to lose. This is the second song that was recorded outside of the Koop - I played my Martin HD-28 against a borrowed percussion loop at my home studio in Mamaroneck NY, and added all the lyrics I could imagine (not very many).
Lyrics
Harvest moon hides in the clouds
October on it’s way
Autumn skies will bring you down
Pray September stay
Watch the stars rise through the clouds
Chase the light away
Harvest moon has got us now
So ends the long long day
Harvest moon hides in the clouds
October on it’s way
Harvest moon has got us now
So ends the long long day
